For the purpose of enhancing the old structure capacity, the experiments and applications of FRP used to enhance capacity have been carried out extensively. While the research of FRP used to enhance reinforcement and ductility of new concrete structure is in the early stage. Early study shows that FRP confined concrete columns as the new structure can play mechanical properties of concrete, steel and FRP to the maximum, and greatly improve capacity of the binding concrete structure and its ductility. In order to study properties of concrete material itself confined by the FRP, the experimental research of FRP confined concrete columns under monotonously axial compression was carried out in the paper. From the perspective of improving the structure ductility, the experiment systematically studied the mechanical performance of FRP confined columns with different types of FRP, sections, warpping method and layers, got the mechanical law of FRP confined columns, verified the enhancing mechanism of FRP confined columns in capacity and ductility by using FEM software and offered the design objectives and methods of the new structure of FRP confined column. Meanwhile, to inspect the service performance of structure (or elements) under one or more such as earthquakes and other random or regularly loading-and-unloading force, the capacity and ductility performance of FRP confined concrete columns under secondary loading were also preliminarily studied. The study shows strength and stiffness of FRP confined concrete columns are not reduced, the ductility has been reduced with the un-recoverable concrete plastic deformation, but the entire component still meets the design requirements.
