Based on the acceleration in the railway system now, people pay attention to the safety of the running engine more and more. The roof eyewinker-image of locomotive and the position of porcelain insulators are very important as a part of electric locomotives detection. This system is designed in allusion to the roof eyewinker- image of locomotive and the position of porcelain insulators. Now there has not been equipment which can finish this work at home and abroad. Therefore the study of this system will help local application. This article, combined with the practical need, disserts the principle, method and process of the roof eyewinker-image of locomotive and the position of porcelain insulators. Based on this, a system is designed to auto detect roof eyewinker-image of locomotive and the spoilage of porcelain insulators, which use the ways of digital image processing and pattern recognize. The article focuses on describing the designs of the Composition of the system and arithmetic design in detail. This paper brings forward some new arithmetics or some improved arithmetics in every module of the system. The main arithmetic includes:1. In the first step of the prophase processing in the whole system, for proofread distorted images, this paper uses Zhang Zheng You image calibration. This paper brings forward new tessellated concert detection in this part, whose speed and precision is improved.2. In the second step of the prophase processing in the whole system, for eyewinker- image matching in anaphase, this system does image mosaic using the pictures which is picked up from the video .This article investigates a great deal of arithmetics of image mosaic and improves speediness image mosaic arithmetics according to the need of scene, which decrease prophase time.3. In the roof eyewinker- image of locomotive this paper put forward a new arithmetic base on circular filling rate, which is validate by the way of experiment. In the ideal condition this arithmetic is effective.4. In the detection of the position of porcelain insulators, this system put a new image mosaic arithmetics based on rectangle analogy curve for all the positions of porcelain insulators. The arithmetics are proved effective with high speed.The paper realize VC picture testing software and add some basal digital image processing functions. In the end this paper show something what can be improve later in the system, moreover, it prospects the further research of the next mission which can't be finished because of time of the task.
