The size of the power grid is increasing continously. The soaring demand for power supply pushes the grid to its operational limit. The security of modern power grid is facing severe chanllenge. Some occurrences may destroy system's safety, causing cascading events, especially make system lost stability and bring large-scale outage. So, it's very important to monitor on power grid on-line security, giving adequate real time operation information to the dispatcher.Normally there are two stages of cascading outages. The first stage is steady state progress stage: a period of slowly evolving successive events. The system operating conditions may get worse with several new disturbances following one another. It can be approximated with steady state analysis. This stage is a very important stage because the system operators may have enough time to evaluate the system condition, identify some vulnerable contingencies, take some control to increase the security level and prevent the possible cascading outages. The control cost is minimal compared with the huge cost of cascading outages. The second stage is transient progress stage: a fast transient process resulting in cascading outages and finally the collapse of the entire system. So, the thesis is focused on the security and warning system study for the first stage, the steady state progress stage.Vulnerability index (VI) and margin index (MI) are proposed to represent comprehensive and quantitative vulnerability and security information of the individual part as well as the whole system.PSS/E is the large power system simulation software developed by Siemens PTI Corporation. It is the most popular and reliable power system computing platform for engineering in the world. It has powerful and stable power system simulation computing ability, while support customization. Many domestic grid companies have deployed PSS/E which has greatly improved the working efficiency. But PSS/E is mainly used for off-line analysis and it needs lots of manual interventions. Thus it can not be applied to power system on-line steay state security warning directly. The thesis has fully used the calculating engine of PSS/E, customize it to meet the requirement of steady state security and warning calculation using Python. For large scale power grid, the work load of calculation is huge. In order to ensure the real time calculation, multi agent system (MAS) technology is proposed to realize parallel computing. Meanwhile, FIPA ACL (Agent Communication Language) is usesd to communicate between agents, facilitating flexibility and scalability of the system. The intelligent collaboration protocol of multi agent coordination is presented with the finite state machine.
