It is essential to reconstruct and reinforce the flood control wall along Suzhou River, with the implementation of the 3rd Comprehensive Environment Renovation Planning in Suzhou River. So Elevated Pile Caps, which is the main structure type of such a Planning, should be designed well. As a result, heavy attention should be paid to the mechanics analysis of pile foundation under lateral loads, the selection of computation model, etc. Because they have a serious effect on structural security and rationality.Based on practical engineering, the plane 'm' method and nonlinear finite element method have been compared and analyzed. And the results of both methods, such as horizontal displacement and bending moment distribution, are consistent with measured data. While the results of the nonlinear finite element method are more precise than those of the plane 'm' method. Moreover, for the plane 'm' method, loads above the base must be uniform, and the pile-cap must be absolute rigid. So, that method has great limitation. For nonlinear finite element, which is used in ANSYS software, these must be considered in detail, such as model selection, degrees of freedom of element at joints, load selection, and so on.Besides, this paper also discusses the general bending moment distribution, influence factors of the displacement and internal force for Elevated Pile Caps, as well as calculation method. For example, the maximum bending moment mostly occurs in 0-0.4 times pile length. It is a better way to increase the back pile diameter than increase the front pile diameter, for double-row piles, whose front pile is sheet pile and whose back pile is rectangular pile. Because it will lead to the more reasonable and uniform bending moment distribution. Finally, the further research aspects are given.
