Conventional seismic design is based on the rigid foundation assumption. However, the effect of soil - pile - structure interaction on the structure response is often important. Because of the computer capacity constraints, for large space structures, it is not reality to use the direct analysis method.Based on the above considerations, the main research work and results is described as follows:(1) This paper proposes a simplified finite element method for solving the soil-pile-structure interaction problems. The method similarly considered the impact of the soil's nonlinearity. The feasibility and accuracy of the suggested method is proved by the examples.(2) This paper summarizes a method for calculate the dynamic impedance of the pile groups in the variable parameters soil. And two dynamic impedance's amendment methods are proposed when considering the soil's nonlinearity. The example of this method proves that this method has a good engineering practicability, and the amendment methods greatly improving the computational efficiency, particularly the second method.(3) The seismic response of the Pudong International Airport T2 Building is analyzed by using this method. Compared with the results obtained from the rigid foundation assumption, we can find these conclusions: (a) Using the method in this paper, the efficiency has been greatly increased. (b) For large space structures, conventional rigid foundation assumption is unreasonable, so consider the soil-pile-structure is necessary.
