The first factor is safety, and the economic benefit is second for the Water Conservancy and Hydroelectric Power Engineering. Its safety is very important for the national economy and the people's livelihood. The city will be influenced badly and the mischance will come to the people who live at the lower reaches of the river if the engineering breaks down.The Fengman Concrete Gravity Dam is located in the city of Jilin, Jilin province. The dam has a lot of defects from the time when it began to run, because the course of building was very complex and the period of building was very special. But the earthquake always breaks out in our country, so it is very essential to find out the dynamic characteristic and the capability of the dam to resist the earthquake. So the aseismatic response of two representative segments of the Fengman Dam is analyzed in this article.At the beginning of this paper, the dynamic theory,the concrete damage theory,the FEM and some aseismatic computational methods are introduced. The dam-reservoir dynamic interaction resulting from the ground motion is computed using the developed and generalized Westergaard formula. Then the modal of two representative segments from the water retaining dam and the spillway dam is computed at the different load cases including the designing water level,reservoir full with water and reservoir without water. And the characteristic of frequency at the different load cases is discussed. In order to analyze the aseismatic characteristic, the method of the response spectrum is used. The displacement and the stress at the different load cases are also discussed. Based on the plastic-damage theory, the damage of the two representative segments at the designing water level is analyzed. And the damage place and the development of the damage are known. Finally, the rule of the seismic response and the place where is easy to destroy are got. Some suggestions are given based on the result.
