China is very rich in mineral reserves of strontium, and gross reserves is number one in world. As the increasing of exploitation technique and utilization level and quantity demanded continuous enlargement of strontium carbonate, there more and more strontium residue is produced because of making strontium carbonate annual year. Stacking the by-product of strontium salt will engage precious land, and contaminate environment, and will waste a large amount resource. So studying the strontium residue as road material may effectively avoid open questions, and is a optimum path to dispose strontium residue.This article depended on west traffic construction research project of "Research on application of strontium residue in country road", and the characteristics of physicochemical were analyzed. Grinding, calcinations and filling chemical excitant could improve hydration reactivity of strontium residue. Strontium residue as aggregate and blending in cement mortar was systematic and profoundly studied, and strontium residue replacing cement was also studied.It indicated that five vital aspects of by-product of strontium salt after putting on trial celestine and coal are calcined to extract strontium carbonate, and the residue is by-product of strontium salt. Its particle surface is fortuitous, and ratio of gap is big, and main constituent are the oxyde of silicium, strontium, calcium, aluminum, ferro and so on. It has potential hydrated reactivity. After burnting on 800℃temperature and adapting grinding, pozzolana activity of by-product of strontium salt and mechanical performance of by-product of strontium salt mortar is increasing obviously. The activity index is increasing with increasing of the degree of fineness. Excitant may increase hydrated activity of by-product of strontium salt, and also obviously improve the workable and intensity of cement mortar. As mortar blending after grinding, when cement is replaced 30% of cement mortar, intensity will reach 60%~80% of unreplaced mortar. Strontium residue replaces the sand of mortar, the more dosage of strontium residue, the weaker the workable. But the strength could meet the demand of design. When sand was replaced of 20% to 40% by strontium residue, frost resistance of the mortar get optimum. Strontium residue coincided with the technical requirement of roadbed materials, and it may be used on building road.
