Dynamic compaction gravel pier has been a more and more application of soft-handling because it has a simple construction method and the material can obtain from local. However, as related research lags behind, particularly deformation characteristics and influencing factors of embankment deformation is unclear after the use of such measures, it has been seriously restricted the promotion and performance of this technology in highway soft ground treatment, so the development of studying about deformation character of dynamic compaction gravel pier composite foundation under embankment load is vital necessary.Based on analysis of research present situation and development trend of dynamic compaction gravel pier, the paper elaborates basic characteristic of dynamic compaction gravel pier composite foundation under the embankment load, and shows the relations and the difference of the three similar technology -dynamic compaction gravel pier, dynamic compaction, vibro-replacement gravel piles. Meanwhile, this paper uses the finite element analysis method to analyze deformation patterns of gravel pier composite foundation and the factors of embankment deformation. The view believe that pier length and replacement rate and strength of dynamic compaction gravel pier has a great impact on settlement and horizontal deformation of composite foundation; With finite element analysis results, the calculating method of consolidation settlement has been received, it is a better solution to the consolidation problem of dynamic compaction pier gravel composite foundation under multilayer loading. The paper puts forward detailed steps on design according to post-construction settlement control method, and discusses the construction technology and quality control methods of dynamic compaction pier gravel composite foundation, along with the test checking and construction from the soft-handling project of Erka section of Haiman highway in Inner Mongolia.In this paper, the outcome of institute to further improve design methods of dynamic compaction gravel pier composite foundation, as well as to provide a reference and guide for similar projects.
