When vacuum switches switch off shunt capacitors, restriking overvoltage may be brought about and threaten insulation of equipments severely. In this thesis we use Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) to simulate and study this overvoltage, and study how to use MOA to reduce it basing on multi-exponential MOA model. At the same time, based on L-R damping principle, researches are made on the feasibility of restricting overvoltage by L-R device. Thus methods of ensuring the parameters of these devices are concluded.
