Qingshuitan and Dafutan Water Control Project, which located at the middle reaches of the Yuanshui River, are two adjacent cascade hydropower stations. The Qingshuitan Water Control Project located at upstream reach and the Dafutan Water Control Project located at the downstream reach. The two projects are mainly for power generation and navigation as well. The influence on the flow condition of navigation is not considered when the power station runs at the design planning operation mode. Therefore, the investigation is needed on how to optimize the operation mode, which will obtain comprehensive benefits of the hydro-junction.By the project of"The Yuan River Shipping Development Engineering research", based on the massive literature and investigation of the material. The optimal operation of Qingshuitang-Dafutan hydroelectric power station is deeply studied.Firstly, this paper introduces the possibility of research on power generation and navigation optimal of cascade hydroelectric power station, and then the theory, methods and application have been reviewed. And the current research is made a summarize .At last the research contents are advanced.By analysis of the basic basin and reservoir dates, the problem for operation of Qingshuitang and Dafutang hydroelectric power station is pointed out. Then the improvement is put forward.Analysis of the impact of cascade station unsteady flow and the improvent to navigation laid the foundation for the further study of the optimal operation mode.Based on the typical peak regulation curves, an optimal model is proposed for determining the discharge curves of power station. The model takes the minimal deviation between practical discharge and peak regulation discharge as the objective, water balance, power generation and navigation as the constraints. Pattern search method is used to solve the optimal model. At the same time the model is applied to The Qingshuitang-Dafutang cascade hydroelectric power station in the Ruan River, the optimum discharge curves are obtained.According to the characteristic of Qingshuitang-Dafutang cascade hydroelectric power station, an optimal dynamic programming model of power generation is developed. And the solving procedure is provided. Then the model is applied to the three typical floods.At the end the works in text are summarized and the problems to further thought are points out.
