The development of the integrated electric power system (IPS) has brought higher request to propulsion motors. Ships are limited by internal space, and therefore, research aimed at developing compact direct drive propulsion motors is becoming a hot spot. A novel machine-transverse flux permanent magnetic (TFPM) motor is proposed in order to improve torque density of the motor, which obtains more and more attention these years. In this thesis, based on the TFPM motor features, a mathematical model of TFPM motor is given, a novel direct torque control (DTC) method for TFPM motor is proposed with the control scheme. In the implementation of the DTC method, two hysteresis comparators are used to control the magnetic flux and torque, and the switching of the inverter is decided by a optimized switching table. After, a simulation model of the DTC control system is created in SIMULINK. Simulation results verify the proposed strategy is effective for TFPM motor control. The proposed system has been implemented and carried out on a power electronics development platform based on TMS320F2812. IPM and DSP is the core of the hardware platform, the converter topology is the typical AC-DC-AC structure, phase current, DC link voltage and rotor position are measured by hall sensor or encoder, and transferred to the DSP's AD channel or QEP unit respectively. The control algorithm is achieved in the DSP programmed by C. The experiment results are given and agree with the simulation result very well.Simulation and experiment results show the TFPM motor control characteristics as: quick response, easy implementation and good robustness, so direct torque control is effective to imply on TFPM motors.
