As an important construction, concrete is widely used in military engineering and civil structures. Study and numerical simulation on dynamic response of concrete under dynamic loading will be of advantage to its current application. Based on the physical mechanism of concrete damage, this paper presents some progress in improving the Continuum Damage Model and in numerical simulating on some dynamic tests on concrete. The main results obtained can be summarized as:1. The progress of dynamic constitutive models and damage models of concrete has been systematically researched. Based on the strain rate dependency and damage theory, the Continuum Damage Model is improved, also roundly considered the influence factors on dynamic response of concrete, such as stain rate hardening, damage, hydrostatic pressure and so on.2. The improved concrete model is implemented into LS-DYNA, a 3D dynamic FE code, and an execute program containing the model is developed.3. Using the program developed, two kinds of experiments of the concrete targets impacted and penetrated by high velocity projectiles are simulated. The results render details of the physical phenomena of impact and penetration, which presents the effect of the new concrete model in describing the dynamic behavior of concrete. Afterwards, the stochastic damage evolvement in concrete is simulated, and the result of simulation obviously shows the process of microcracks stochastically forming and growing.
