Layer is made up of fluid matters, which can wet the surface of the substance adhibited by the layer, during the adhibition,layer will be solidified, then it will cover the materials or surface of the matters in the form of layer, which is one of the most beneficial and economic method of improving the character of the material, it can not only improve the character but also endow the material with new functions, so it is widely applied in the mechanical engineering, information technology, computer science and so on, the quantity of the layer directly influence its practical application ,at present there are many ways to inspect it, infrared thermal wave nondestructive testing is a new type of the nondestructive methods, which can inspect the defects of the layer and can measure the size of the defects, meanwhile, it can be used to calculate the depth of the layer, this task provide the quantificational calculation and analysis of the layer with defect and depth.The paper seeks the logarithm temperature and time curves to calculate the depth of the layer from the theory model, for some layer samples that have defects ,the measurement of the size of the defect is based on the certain size of pixel in the thermal image ,in the paper different layer samples are chose to measure the depth of the layer and analysis the defect , because the measurement of the layer has many influence factors, many countries endeavor to find some ideal method of the measurement, high precision and high stability became the hotspots of the research in many nations at the present, infrared thermal wave imaging can not only inspect the defects of the layer but also can calculate the depth of the layer, which can improve the ability of the layer inspection, on the basis of existing inspecting ability, if this technology can applied in multi-layer coat ,then it will improve the level of the inspection remarkably.
