With the developing and the combination of electrical grid, the grid'sstability properties become worse. With the using of Thyristor Controlled SeriesCompensation (TCSC),which will enhance the probability of SubsynchronousResonance(SSR) under certain conditions,the shafts will be broken. Inthepaper thetorsional vibration properties have been analysed firstly; and the torsional low cyclefatigue life model using for turbogenerator shafts is developed based on Manson-Coffinequation of axial low cycle fatigue. Two torsional vibraton protection standards havebeen provided in protection strategies. TSR(Torsional Stress Relay) using in Yiminpower plant under experimental conditions was introduced at last,both the newtorsional low cycle fatigue life model and the protection standards can direct the safeoperation exactly and efficiently.
