Power Line Communication (PLC) is a communication technology using MV-LV distribution network to transfer integrated services such as telephone, voice, image and so on. Not only can it can be used as an effective strategy to resolve broad-band access, but provides a high-speed data transmission platform for power monitor, remote meter-reading, distribution network automation, inner network of enterprises, intelligent family and digital community. Meanwhile, PLC has some advantages, such as fast transmission speed, low investment, and no need to build up new transmission network. In this article, we aim to design a MV coupler with relative coupling circuit and periphery circuit for related LV PLC modem. At first, we discuss the scheme of coupling unit and signal processing unit, including the selection of material, size of MV inductive coupler magnetic core and MV coupling circuit; Then, different LV PLC coupling scheme and relative design of coupling circuit is introduced; finally, we will present concrete circuit diagram of modem circuit with brief introduction of each part and will test LV PLC modem circuit.
