A vast number of new devices for power system applications have arose up. The devices'model in conventional simulation softwares are fixed, which can't meet the need of new equipments'modeling. Therefore, user-defined modeling technique is proposed and utilized in power system simulations. Based on the object-oriented concept, component technology is a new software development method with its reusability and scalability. Dynamic-link library is one of its most typical applications. In this paper, user-defined models are developed for the control system (eg. field regulator, speed governor and PSS) in power grid simulations using user-defined modeling technique and component technology. New equipments'models can be constructed to meet customized needs by selecting relevant component. When we are analyzing the simulation result of the EPRI standard 36 nodal system, the technology of this paper is implanted into the CC2000 DTS system developed by China Electric Power Research Institute. The result proves its accuracy and efficiency.
