In recent years, worldwide blackout resulted in power system voltage stability has happened subsequently in the world. A great attention has been taken by industries and researchers in the world, and a lot of works have been done to study the problem. For a long time, researchers have carried out a large amount of research on the rotor angle stability, clarified the mechanism of angle instability, and set up a relatively mature theory of analysis and control that widely used in the power system. But the mechanism of the voltage instability or collapse is still not at all clear and the analysis of voltage stability and control theory has not still built up. This article summarizes the current status of voltage stability research, and analyses the principal of power system voltage instability and voltage collapse and generalize the voltage stability static method and dynamic method. In term of the trait of XinJiang grid, this paper used PV and QV analysis function of PSS/E (Power System Simulator/Engineering),combine with power margin index, analysis the static voltage stability of XinJiang Power Grid under summer-heavy operation mode in 2007 from the constant power load model and ZIP load model, and the sensitivity analysis for the influence of N-1 outages of 220 kV AC transmission linesThe nature of voltage instability is a dynamic problem and mid-long term numerical integration simulation method usually is used to analyze the voltage instability. This article contains a detailed discussion of OLTC, dynamic load recovery model, MXL to the voltage dynamic stability influence and established 3 machine 10 node simulation example based on the PSS/E simulation platform, used the PSS/E dynamic simulation function as well as the expansion dynamic simulation function fully has carried on Mid-long term voltage stability research regarding the influence factor of OLTC, MXL , dynamic recover model. The effects of these slow dynamic elements on the course of voltage instability or collapse are revealed from the point of view of time-domain simulation.
