Long-distance and large diameter water diversion project is arduous and complex. It will take a long period of time and consume a huge amount of investment and energy. So it is necessary to analyze and discuss it both socially and economically. In this article, the author optimizes the design of the Yellow River to Tianjin inner city water diversion pipeline project through the confirmation of the principle and scale and analyzes the technology and effects of the long-distance and large diameter water diversion pipeline.In this article, the author studies and discusses the general situation and ways of water supply of the Yellow River to Tianjin inner city water diversion project. Based on the analysis of the necessity of the project, the author confirms the pipe design principle, puts forward many economical and secure alternatives.As for the selection of the pipeline material, in this article, the author compares the features of some materials suitable for long-distance water diversion project such as compression resistance, erosion resistance, waterpower condition, flexibility, difficulties, cost and duration. And this comprehensive evaluation do contributes to the selection of a cost-effective, reliable pipeline material which is easy to use, good for the protection of the water quality and with long duration.In this article, the author analyzes and evaluates the two cathode protection methods -anode sacrifice and electric current addition, and this do contributes to the selection of a reasonable way of erosion resistance.The analysis and study of the economical benefits of the pipeline water diversion project in this article do contributes to the project construction from the view point of project benefits.Long-distance water diversion project must follow the principles of both economically and securely. The studies in this article not only provides feasible and optimized design for the south to north inner city water diversion project to guarantee the realization of these principles, but also contributes to the future economic analysis and study of the technologies of long-distance water diversion project.
