Top-shaped concrete block foundation is a new foundation structure that was developed by Japan Top-shaped Concrete Block Industry Association. It is a foundation treatment technology of shallow layer soil. When construct non-high structure on foundation soil composed of thick silt and saturated soft clay, using top-shaped concrete block foundation can avoid complex deep foundation. And also, the construction of top-shaped concrete block is simple. It is economical and there are not much requirements for the construct field. So it is very available for Chinese foundation treatment and coast works.The use and study of top-shaped concrete block foundation in China are very little. In this dissertation the reasonable numerical model was established by comparing with the results of the model test finished by Japanese researchers. Using the FEM, the ground subsidence, the soil stress and its distribution under the different foundation and load were analysed. And the mechanism of the top-shaped concrete block foundation was concluded.According to the calculation results, the top-shaped concrete block foundation can reduce the ground subsidence effectually. For the same foundation soil and load, the ground subsidence of the top-shaped concrete block foundation is about 50% to 60% of the foundation that has no foundation treatment, and about 70% to 80% of the concrete plank foundation. Thus, if the ground subsidence is decided, the top-shaped concrete block foundation has high ground bearing capacity.The soil stress distribution under the top-shaped concrete block foundation is more even than that of the untreated foundation and concrete plank foundation. The top-shaped concrete block foundation can disperse the load on the foundation to the soil evenly, and make it distribute in a bigger soil body. So the soil stress and subsidence are reduced. And also for this, top-shaped concrete block foundation can increase the soil bearing capacity and reduce the soil subdidence effectively.
