Fuel cell which is different from traditional energy form has been in our eyes several years; it is industrializition in some countries. Low- temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) has large advantage at cost and materials preparation. SOFC performance rises with the anode performance. Direct carbon fuel cell (DCFC)uses carbon material with different form as anode; it has higher efficiency, 100% theoretically,lower cost.In this work, some study about SOFC and DCFC were focused on .Sol-gel method was used for the preparation of mixtures oxide MO-SDC. Carbon black (CB) dispersed into MO-SDC. The material can be used as anode. Direct carbon fuel cell (DCFC) measurement device, electrolyte material, anode material were firstly established. Several aims were achieved as follows:1. The carbon black (CB) which has good ion conductivity and anti-oxide at high temperature was introduced to the MO-SDC material to optimize its performance, experiment results showed that when 1.5wt% CB-MO-SDC was used as SOFC anode, the power density achieved 285 mW/cm2 using H2 fuel.2. Experiment results showed that the calcined temperature of MO-SDC gel had large impact on the performance of CB-MO-SDC anode. When the gel calcined at 550℃, 293 mW/cm2 ,217 mW/cm2 power density was achieved with H2 and methanol gas as fuel ,respectively.3. Direct carbon fuel cell (DCFC) measurement device was firstly established and the operation temperature was 650℃. The electrolyte was ascertained in this work, a ternary eutectic mixture of 30wt%LiAlO2-(Li2CO3-K2CO3), was entrained with the carbon fuel particles and the oxidizer air and circulated through the anode and cathode. It can achieve the power density of 141 mW/cm2.4. The higher electrochemical performance of the novel anode material was attributed to the improvement of electron conductivity by adding appropriate proportion electrolyte. That novel anode material which has 37.5wt% electrolyte in needle coke achieves the highest power density 187 mW/cm2.5. After comparing the life-time between SOFC and DCFC, it was found that SOFC can achieve higher open-circuit voltage (OCVs), but can't last for long time; DCFC has lower OCVs but can last for long time.
