Switching power increases quickly recently, and even exceeds the growth of digital processing unit and memory. Most growth comes from electronic product with high power capacity, such as cellphone and digital music player. Since all the electronic products need power supply, power management becomes more important. In this situation, to design high efficiency, high frequency DC-DC switching power supply is valuable in the view of both economy and research. In this thesis, kinds of DC-DC converter are introduced first. Then the control techniques of DC-DC converters are completely described analyzed. The techniques with two different methods are classified as: the mode of pulse width modulate, and the difference of control signal. The advantages and disadvantages of each method is analyzed and compared. And also the analysis of soft switching technique and system performance.A type of PWM buck DC-DC converter based on voltage mode control method is designed. The basic principle and system structure is analyzed and studied intently. This converter contains the main circuit, error amplifier, proportional-integral controller and PWM comparator. With Candence EDA IC design tools, such as Spectre and Virtuoso, the all sub-circuits are emulated carefully. As a result, all of the sub-circuits answer the requirements. In the meantime, with SMIC 0.18μm 1P6M process, layout of some sub-circuits is finished.
