Bioelectrical impedance analysis is a widely used method in measuring body fat. However, all of the existing body fat apparatus regards the body trunk as a complete unit, and can not reflect the distribution of fat in trunk. Moreover, the majority of fat apparatus are based on the single chip, their function of software and hardware is limited in extendibility, data storage capacity is also greatly restricted, and the data analysis function is weak.In view of the above question, the paper establishes a model of body impedance distribution and divides the trunk into four parts, and then introduces the formula deduce of the segmental impedance and develops a fat apparatus based on ARM-LINUX. Finally, the validity of the model and the accuracy of apparatus are proved by experiment.The main works of this paper are as follows:(1) Establish the model of body impedance distribution based on the existing theory, and use eight electrode technologies to measure the segmental impedance of body. Through measuring impedance and the body weight, height and other parameters, combining the theoretical analysis and experimental check revise, the paper has drawn the formula to calculate the fat in various parts of the body fat.(2) Design and implement the hardware and software of fat apparatus based on ARM processor and embedded linux operating system. Hardware circuit includes impedance measuring, weight and height measuring circuit and the interface between the embedded development board and the hardware circuit. Software includes the transplantation of embedded linux operating system and Qt/Embedded environment, development of driver program and graphical user interface application program.(3) Measure many volunteers by using the self-made apparatus, Omron body fat apparatus, and underwater weighing method, and then get the comparative data for statistical analysis.
