The southern slope of Guqin mountain which is a branch range of Tianshan, is passed by the Jing-Yi-Huo railway. The conditions of geology and geography are complex, snowslide and drifting snow occur frequently, so this place becomes one of the most serious snow disaster area in Xinjiang. However, due to the impact and constrain of various conditions, the current research of drifting snow disaster in the area can't meet the need of railway construction.Starting with the study on natural condition along the Jing-Yi-Huo railway, this paper gives a comprehensive analysis of basic characteristics, influencing factors and prevention measures of snow drifting disaster. Firstly, choosing two typical sections as study object, using various methods, such as gathering information, on-site inspection, observation, test and indoor analysis, the changes of snow-bearing wind and the deposit features of snow are analyzed. Secondly, based on the wind speed, observation of snow depth, influencing factors, this paper emphatically analyzes the relationship of snow disaster and roadbed. Finally, combined with the deep observation of snow along the testing section, the effect of the prevention project is evaluated.In the study area, the speed and direction of wind changes continually and the average annual snowfall is a large amount, so the disaster of drifting snow occurs frequently. By studying the meteorological observation data of high embankment and low cutting, the deposition rules of drifting snow and the distribution features in various roadbeds are obtained. Combined with the using conditions and effect of the prevention project, it shows that snow wall and snow fence have a good effect on preventing and treating the snow disaster.Finally, on the basis of the features, the influencing factors and the analyzed result of observation data, this paper gives the corresponding suggestions on the prevention treatment project. These give a scientific basis for protecting the snow disaster along the Jing-Yi-Huo railway, and also provide a reference for the other projects in this area.
