As the rapid development of power industry, hinger requierment is brought forward for the relay protection of power system. It is an important issue for relay protection workers about how to utilize new type of technologies to develop new protection principle and methods,and improve the performance of the protection device. The paper takes distribution power system's bus and distribution line as the object of study, protection of choosing the fault line of the single bus and distribution line using the traveling wave current initial polarity has conducted the research,based on the wavelet transformation.Analysis on the travelling wave current polarity comparision protection, wavelet primary function suited for travelling wave protection analysis are presented and utilized to extract travelling wave signal. Propose the protection of choosing the fault line of the single bus and distribution line priclple based on the wavelet transformation. The principle and methods for the protection and protection program overview flow are also presented.This article simulates and confirms the single bus of 35kv under different faults type, different fault location, based on that above a 10kv system are simulated and confirmed to choose the fault line of bus and distribution line. The result has indicated the accuracy of principle.The travelling wave protection hardware scheme is designed in order to utilize the travelling wave protection principle based on the travelling wave current polarity comparison which is presented in this paper to engineering practice. The paper studies the design target and design methods for each part of the protection hardware design scheme .
