The space-based detection and recognition of the space target is a kind of method which takes advantage of methods in the field of space-based detecting to gain information associated with space target, then it can process the information to extract the characteristics, structure, and the operating mode of the target, and finally, the type, attribute, behavior, and even degree of danger of the space target could be judged.Based on the recognition of space debris, the reach about the recognition capability of the visible sensor onboard the orbit sensor is carried out in this paper.First of all, the overall analysis of the research on the space debris is carried out; the necessity of the reach work in this paper is analyzed; the primary coverage of this paper is posited.Secondly, the parameters of the visible sensor onboard the satellite are analyzed and determined, the focal length, field of view, effective aperture, spatial resolution, and the sensitivity of the sensor are derived depended on the precondition that the capturing and detecting capability of the sensor must be high enough.The composition of the sensor's image is analyzed. The characteristic parameters such as the signal intensity, the distribution and the intensity of the background, and the distribution and the intensity of the noise are determined, and the emulate images are generated.Because of the restrictions of the optical resolution, the information of the target based on the intensity of radiation cannot supply enough information for recognizing the space debris. In this paper, a method takes the big difference of the velocity between the space debris and the stars as a base of recognizing the space debris is carried out.Finally, a new algorithm for space debris recognition is carried out based on the characteristics such as the difference of the velocity between the space debris and the stars and the stability of the intensity of the space debris. The result of the simulation shows the feasibility and the validity of the algorithm.
