This article accomplished through the relationship between the classical garden and the traditional culture and the cultural and geographical condition in Langzhong, surveyed the sites, ruins, relating historic documents and many examples of existing gardens, analyzed the development history of classical garden in Langzhong and the relating politics, economy and culture environment. Basing on that, this essay details the development history, constructing system and art characters of it from four aspects which are "Miracle of Langzhong", "garden has city in it", "city has gardens in it", and "Wonderland of Langzhong".Essential garden types and typical examples are analyzed and studied in this essay, which are official garden, temple-shrine garden, academy garden and private garden. Then details the major characters and art style, and analyses the art of Langzhong classical garden making from construction planning and landscape composition.Directed the current situation of classical garden in Langzhong, appeals to concern, protect, carry down and develop it. Finally basing on the achievements provides some methods and personal opinions about applying the theory about Langzhong classical garden in the modern landscape architecture development, "natural city" plan, public space create, modern house design, architecture environment design, and so on.The whole style of classical garden in Langzhong is landscape architecture suing nature skillfully. Which generally performs city and gardens melt into one another, garden has a city in it, and city has lots of gardens in it. And which emboby expresses leisure and paceful, elegant and trig, natural and beautiful, rough in external and beactiful in inner. Classical garden in Langzhong has two typical characteristics besides that.One of them is the coordination and unity between classical garden making and ancient city development, marked by "garden is a city, city likes a garden". In the past, Langzhong classical garden made use of beautiful natural and extraordinary geographical condition, as well as combined with city construction. Which forms the characteristics of "natural garden city" marked by "garden has city in it, city has gardens" that neatly dovetailed with the theory about "natural city" put forward by the professor Xuesen Qian in 1990. Therefore, the study about the relationship between classical garden making and ancient city construction not only provides a good exemplar which can support the scientific connotation of traditional theory, but also supplies a theoretic guide to other cities development.Another characteristic is the close association between classical garden and traditional fengshui, that is to say Langzhong classical garden is the product of the association between Chinese classical garden art and the traditional theory about fengshui. The site selection, composition and making are effectively affected with the traditional theory about fengshui, expressing marked local peculiarity. Thus this study will further prove the interrelationship between the two traditional theories.Langzhong classical garden is the essential constituent of Sichuan classical garden and the important component of Langzhong culture as well. This article has theoretic and realistic significance to either study Sichuan garden even Chinese garden or study Langzhong local culture.This essay has three innovations.
