Ultrasonic motor with multi-Degree of Freedom (DOF) developed recently is a new type of ultrasonic motor, it includes three principal components: stator, rotor and excitation power supply. The motor converts a piezoelectric ally excited resonant vibration of the stator into a rotational movement to the rotor by frictional forces. Comparing with traditional electromagnetic motor, multi-DOF possesses the following features :high torque with low speed, insensitive to magnetic fields, fast response, compactness in size, high holding torque when power is off, precision positioning, no noise and so on. So, Ultrasonic motor with multi-DOF which has a good future is a new trend in development of new pattern motor.The history of the development, characteristics, classification, application and research of motor with multi-DOF are systematically reviewed. The excellent features of USM are highlighted when comparing with the traditional electromagnetic motor. Based on the present status and the development question of motor with multi-DOF all over the world, there search aspects on the thesis are summarized.For the cylinder-type stator ultrasonic motor with three-DOF example, Dynamic model of system is built by piezoelectric and Hamilton principle and other theories. Transfer function of motor with multi-DOF is built by neural network, and the control model of entire system is built by MATLAB, then dynamic characteristic and stability of motor be analyzed. For some nonlinear problem in the system, nonlinear analysis of stator be employed.Vibration, kymatology, tribology, electron, modern control technologies are applied in areas of motor with multi-DOF which can be used in many fields such as rodots and bionics for its special motion. The theory, design, produce, control technology of new motor can be advanced in china. It is very import to improve social and economic benefits.
