Due to the energy crisis, the lack of electric power and the increasingly worsening circumstance of power supply, the wind energy, as one of the most important substituted clear energy sources, provided a meaningful solution to energy crisis. With the development of wind power generation, many countries, including China, have published related policies to encourage wind power generation. More and more wind farms integrated into the power grid, it is necessary to investigate the impact of increasing wind turbine penetration to power system dynamic stability. The application and researching status of wind generation is summarized. The impact of integrated wind farms to grid is analyzed and the standard specifies of integrated wind farms in China and other countries are introduced. A practical wind farm of Fujian province is analyzed. Besides, several common tools for simulating and analyzing wind generation are introduced. The basic concepts, structure and classification of the wind generation system are described detailedly in chapter 3. The modeling of the widely used wind generation system with doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is studied. The decoupling control method of DFIG's active and reactive powers is implemented as well as the maximal wind energy capture. Simulating results verified the validity and feasibility of the control method proposed. In order to investigate the impact of increasing wind turbine penetration to power grid by PSS/E, User-Defined Modeling (UDM) Technique is introduced in chapter 5. The detail flow chart of UDM, the initialization method for modeling and the operation method for using of UDM models are described. The UDM method proposed in the paper is also applicable for the modeling of other power system elements. Finally, the field testing results of the practical wind farm are introduced. These data are very useful for checking the simulation models.
