Considering the weakness of the lithium bromide absorption chiller of the solar powered absorption system, such as large volume and the high cost, a small type solar powered absorption chiller is proposed. The new type of structure, in which the heat and mass transfer are separated, is used in the absorber, evaporator and generator. By precooling or preheating the fluid before the entrances of these components, the heat and mass transfer are separated, which strengthens the processes of generation, absorption and evaporation. All these have been done reduced the volume of the chiller.In the paper, the area of every component and the flux of every liquid flow are calculated with the operation conditions of the 5kw lithium bromide absorption chiller, further more, the basic structure and the pumps are chosen. The fabricating and debugging of the chiller have been finished before the autumn of 2007, when two experiments was done on the solar powered absorption refrigeration: Performance study of the chiller when the absorber spray the strong solution and performance study of the chiller when the absorber spray the mixture of the strong solution and weak solution. The result shows that the chiller performs well on both of the two experiments, however, it performs better when the absorber spray the mixture of the strong and weak solution. when the intensity of solar radiation reduce, the temperature of hot water inlet falls down, which makes the cooling capacity and the coefficient of performance reduce. The depressing of the environment temperature and the decreasing of the flux of cooling water also have a bad effect on the cooling capacity.At last, the characteristic of flow rate, temperature of cooling water and chilled water, the characteristic of the temperature of the heat water, the non-absorbable gas and the heat preservation, which are the effects on the performance of the chiller, have been analyzed . According to the analysis, the trend of each parameter of performance under all those disturbing factors have been presented. The works that has been done presents some valuable results for the future research.
