The main engine shafting of 4250TEU container ship is long, so when undocking, the elastic deformation of ship structure may be make the main engine shafting base deviates its original installing position. In order to ensure that the shafting base is in horizon direction, the horizontal reference must be calibrated after launching and floating at rest. It can enhance the shipbuilding efficiency that the shafting base is installed at the stage of docking and at the same time the level is calibrated. For this purpose, in this paper, FEM technology is applied to calculate the deformation of stern structure for the 4250TEU container ship. The calculations are made according to two conditions, i.e. in docking and in floating at rest. The results in the two state conditions are analyzed and then the relative deformation is obtained. Based on the certain decision forecast of the ship relative deformation, the revised scheme is made and the base precision in horizon direction satisfy the tolerance. Based on the above work, it can be tried that shafting base is installed and calibrated in horizon direction when docking, and the time cost in shafting horizontal alignment is reduced and the efficiency for shipbuilding is enhanced. The reasonable method and calculation scheme for hull structure deformation analysis is summarized, which present a technology foundation for installing shafting base and the horizontal calibration.
