In the early 21st century, with the great development of the military science and technology, the unmanned surface vehicle (USV) emerged as time required. Although the emergence of USV is later than the unmanned submarine and the unmanned aerocraft, the USV is developing rapidly. Presently, several kinds of USV have been using in military field already. So, in recent years, It is a top and important problem to do research on the planing craft which is used as the platform of USV. It needs to make sure that the planing craft should have good hydrodynamic performance when sailing in water. But at present, the research on hydrodynamic performance of planing craft is still a difficult problem that generally been solved by ship model experiment. With the advancement of computer technology and the development of the numerical simulation technology, the function of the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software becomes more and more powerful, and computational accuracy becomes more and more accurate. Research on planing craft by numerical simulation on planing craft's motion state becomes an important method.In this thesis, the commercial software FLUENT was used to solve problem by solving the Navier-Stokes equation with the RNG k-εmodel and VOF method. Firstly, the author computed and simulated the sailing of the planing craft on the still water surface, and compared the resistance results with the experimental results and the theoretical results. It proves that this method is feasible, and also precise and credible to a certain extent. And then, the numerical wave-generating method was studied. And the mini-amplitude waves were generated by a pure numerical wave-generating method with the wave-making boundary set with UDF macro. This made preparation for the next step-simulating the motion of planing craft in regular waves. With the ship model sea-keeping experiment data analyzed, the regularity of pitch and heave in regular wave was found. Then the powerful dynamic mesh technology was used to simulate the pitch and heave motion of planing craft in the mini-amplitude waves. It was an attempt to apply with the software FLUENT to research the planing craft performance under the waves.Applying with the software FLUENT to simulate the motion of planing craft, the feasibility of the method is affirmed. Undoubtedly, it is still a problem that the precision is not enough, and the simulation of the spray is discontented. The work for this thesis laid a foundation and accumulated experience for the further research on the performance of planing craft.
