As the price of petrol keeps rising and environment pollution becomes much more severe, Gas fuel, as a potential alternative fuel, absorbs more and more attention. But due to the uncertain composition and low heat density of gas fuel, the research of pertinent Internal Combustion Engine is still in the incipient phase. To investigate the combustion process in cylinder and to analyze mechanism of pollutant formation can benefit a lot to academic research and practical engineering. Numerical simulation is used to investigate the combustion process of engine fueled with gas fuel.Based on CFD software-KIVA3V and reaction kinetics software-CHEMKIN2, multi-dimensional CFD Model coupled with detail reaction kinetics is built by a connecting module which can integrate KIVA3V with CHEMKINâ…¡. To reduce the computation time, subsequent development of the coupled software was accomplished, and its mail aim is to enables the coupled software support parallel computing and run on various kinds of parallel computing machine based on MPI.Experimental results indicate that the model is suitable to describe the in-cylinder combustion process of gas fuel engine. Based on the experimental validation, the influences of parameters (such as fuel composition and the excess air ratio.) upon engine combustion are studied. In this paper, the engine holistic performance, the flame propagation and the intermediate products and pollutant species formation are studied and described. The computing result is able to render useful guidance to engine design and optimal revision.
