The ice load is the key load of the design of ocean structure in cold region. Experiment in the laboratory is an important way to determine the load. The development and the process of modal test and the effects that should be avoided are first introduced. Through single and multi-pile tests, ice load of the piles under different spacing had been gotten. By analyzing all the data, a curve of relationship between the ice load and the pile spacing was formed.ANSYS/LS-DYNA has been used to simulate the interaction between ice and the structure. In the end, an ice-broken damage phenomenon is seen in the numerical simulation. Also the data gotten from the simulation is comparable to the experimental data. A new way has been explored to simulate the interaction between ice and the structure. At last, recommendations are brought out for the future exploration. Simulation of the interaction between ice and the structure by ANSYS/LS-DYNA is very promising and deserves further study.
