In artificial freezing engineering, frost heave of soil mainly occurred in the side, that is, the soil lateral deformation of frozen cylinder occurred. However, Chinese most authoritative institute, Lanzhou Glacier Permafrost Institute, mainly studies the vertical frost heave properties of natural soil, which is different from frost heave models of artificial freezing engineering. In order to better grasp the lateral frost heaving characteristics of the artificial frozen soil, the following three aspects have been done in this paper:(l) a multifunctional frost heaving-cylinder test device controlled by microcomputer has been developed in our laboratory, and tests on the lateral frost heaving characteristics of frozen soil have been firstly studied.(2) field measurements of temperature field and frost heave stress field in the formation of frozen wall with three circles of freezing pipes were made.(3)With the engineering background, the formation of multi-coil pipes frozen wall and frost heave force were numerically simulated.Clay of Huainan mine was selected in this experiment, and the lateral frost heave tests of clay under different loads were carried out. The relationships between freezing temperatures and development of frost heave, influence on soil characteristics of frost heave by open systems and closed systems, the size of external load and its effect on frost heave force, and other important relationship were obtained.Field measurements of temperature field,freezing stress field and the law of Pore Water Pressure changes of freezing shaft in Guqiao Southern provides valuable measured dates among the three terms ,which are also the basis for the mechanical analysis of multi-coil pipes frozen wall.The indoor artificial cylindrical lateral frost heave and mechanical properties calculation and analysis of the freezing process in Guqiao Southern District ,by which further analyzed and mastered the lateral frost heaving characteristics of the artificial frozen soil theoretically.This paper provided a way to further in-depth study on frost heave properties of artificial frozen soil and some useful results, which had certain significance for artificial freezing engineering design.
