The Protection And Reuse Of Concession Buildings

Concession, which represents humiliation, appeared in Wuhan City along with the conquerors'guns. In a short time, robbers built a modern area in riverside wilderness areas in Hankow. The public buildings which were different from China's traditional architectures were built up.Concessions with the special political status affect the development of Wuhan City. Russian concession by means of its geographical advantage occupies an important position in five concessions. In China's modern history, many significant events have occurred in the concession. The eve of 1911, occurred the "Baoshan alley's exploded case", and the"August 8th meeting"which is of great significance in the history of revolution has taken place here too ; During the war of resistance, Wuhan was occupied and bombed by Japan and the United States air force, also caused tremendous damage to the Russian concession; After the founding of the PRC, Concession as other parts of Russia also experienced suffering and prosperity……With so many historical events occurred and urban pattern's evolution, Russian concession for the public buildings has also changed. All of this have a significant impact on the historic building of Russian concession and increases its "time value" and "historical value".Base on studying "Chinese Modern Architectures-Wuhan chapter", refer historic materials and consult related people, made a similar "sweeping" investigation, looking for the status of Russian concession's public buildings. Through investigations and studies, the public buildings of Russian concession in the function are administrative office buildings now. Three types of building construction and entertainment trade paper selected from the more typical cases of each type of analysis. Through literature, interviews, mapping, analyses the influence of architectural function's changing, and problems that happened in people reuse the historic buildings.On the basis of investigations and analysis of the Russian concession, the author sums up the historic architectural features into the building. And point out the problems that happened in the protection of public buildings and the re-use of public buildings. Then made a few suggestions for their use in the design, and think about the existing regulations and policies of Wuhan.
