According to the study of international natural gas development situation and status of JDEC's natural gas engine, the combustion system, output, thermal efficiency and emission of the new gas engine are determined.Thermal cycle calculation of the engine is calculated by using the AVL code Boost. Then the engine performance is predicted as well as turbo match and valve timing. To achieve the expected engine performance, learn burn together with Miller cycle, higher swirl ratio and pre-chamber spark plug has to be used. An advanced control system is also necessary which has the function of air/fuel ratio control, detonation detection and monitoring the engine operation. The design of engine components is made considering the key technology and thermal calculation results. The performance development is made on the test bed including the calibration of engine control system function air/fuel ratio control and detonation detection, modification of turbocharger and determination of the best ignition timing. Then the test results are given. The test shows that the H12V190Z_tT gas engine has fulfilled the output, fuel consumption and emission targets. In the end the development conclusion is drawn and further work is expected.
