The smart home systems have been experiencing rapid development, upon entry into the 21 century in particular. When many of smart home products meet the needs of human living in safe, comfortable, convenient, efficient and energy-saving, they also contribute to the complexity of hardware and software resources in household network, the adoption of different operating system and communication protocol, and the possession of different smart electronic appliances in household network environment. A great number of corporations and organizations around the world, aiming at securing a market share in this field, have doubled their efforts in research and development, leading to the emergence of different solutions and relevant products one after another. It has caused great difficulty for system integration. Meanwhile, domestic network is oriented towards general users, yet most of them lack professional knowledge in network management. The setting of smart home system is beyond the ordinary user. Therefore, integrated smart home system, which features self-diagnosis, self-configuration and self-maintenance, has become a difficult problem demanding prompt solution in smart home system.With the purpose of trying to solve the problem of integrated smart home system, this thesis conducted an in-depth study covering such theories as smart home system, domestic network and smart home system middle-ware technology. In the thesis, the present difficulty in integrating smart home system was analyzed, and a solution of adopting middle-wave technology in designing domestic network application was proposed. Besides, three middle-ware, UPnP,HAVi and Jini of domestic network were analyzed and compared. With emphasis placed on Jini technology, the thesis expounds the idea that Jini technology is compatible with the distributive, heterogeneous, dynamic and open features of smart home system. The advantage and limitation of Jini technology in integrated smart home system was illustrated, and Surrogate technology, a solution to overcome Jini limitation was also introduced. Then, a method of combining Jini and Surrogate technology was putted forward to integrate smart home system innovatively. The Specific approach is that dividing the devices of smart home into three categories. They are the devices which have strong computing and storage functions, will be able to run the full JVM, the devices which have embedded JVM and the devices which have no JVM. For the first, second kind of devices, they can be directly attached to the Jini network, because they can provide all the needs of Jini services. The third kind of devices which lack resources can Apply Surrogate technology, design their respective Surrogate, store in equipment in form of JAR file. When the devices working, they load the JAR file into the Surrogate host which can provide the Jini environment. Finally, in light of Jini's mechanism and the demand of integrated smart home system, a series of smart home system scheme based on Jini technology was proposed. Meanwhile, a simulated implementation of the integrated scheme was conducted on PC.Jini integrated solution for smart home system gives full play to the advantage of Java and Jini technology. While implementing in true sense the integrated solution for smart home system featuring device independence, network independence and plug-and-play, it has made the domestic network a distributive network structure of self-diagnosis, self-configuration and self-maintenance, solving the difficulty in integrating smart home system. Thus, it is obvious that the prospect of widespread application of Jini technology in smart home system is bound to be promising.
