The crash accident of trains will not only cause vehicle structure to damage, but also seriously threaten the safety of passenger. Therefore, the passive safety of vehicles has received more and more attention all over the world. To research on vehicles crashworthiness and design energy-absorbing structure, can significantly reduce the damage caused by track vehicle crashes, and also effectively protect the safety of passengers. Based on passive safety design, in this paper, taking cab of the inter-city train for research, the crashworthiness of it are studied by means of numerical simulation techniques.The basic mechanical equation, shell element theory, the explicit integration algorithm, the constitutive relations of elastic-plastic materials and their applicability, the main interface algorithm are introduced for the track vehicle collision simulation.The overall design ideas for crashworthy car body is introduced, moreover, reference to foreign-related standards and norms, performance requirements, evaluation and implementation methods of track vehicle crashworthy car body are expatiated.Energy absorption components are primary energy absorption structures to the crashworthy rail vehicle. By analyzing the failure mode and energy absorption characteristics of thin shell and the energy absorption characteristics of two-layer shell under axial loading, the buffer and energy absorption characteristics of the two-layer shell is summarized. The idea of energy absorption components design with two-layer which length is different between inner-layer and outer-layer is presented, and it will provide theoretical basis for energy absorption components design of inter-city train cab.Finally, reference to the relevant norms, performance requirements and collision simulation speed of inter-city train crashworthy car body is obtained, and the collision simulation model of inter-city train cab is established. By Simplifying the structure of the non-regional large deformation, regarding the structure of a particular region as a rigid in the process of modeling, it is very helpful to simplify the model. On this basis, under the setting speed, the process of collision for the cab is simulated, which with installed anti-climbing energy absorption device or not respectively, and simulation results are analyzed and compared. The results showed that with the anti-climb energy absorption devices, crashworthiness of the train cab has been markedly improved, the interface force has significant dropped and with a smooth change. In the maximum assumed speed of the collision, the structures of passenger room did not have any damage, as well as the cab's deformation was small, the driver's survival space could be protected.
