Inlet volute is one of the important parts of axial-flow compressor. First, it requires the airflow which passes through the volute especially the outlet of the volute as even as possible, so the compressor can work well; second, it requires less pressure loss lest the compressor become lower efficiency; lastly, although it hasn't strict limit in size of the compressor used in industry, it requires the size smaller, so the cost can be reduced. According to these requirements, in this article, some numerical simulations and configuration improvement designs on the inlet volute of axial flow compressor are carried out.To research the inlet volute's aerodynamic characteristic and the method of configuration improvement by experiment, it not only costs much manpower, material resources and money, but also needs a long period. Thus numerical simulation makes significant sense. The following works had been done in this thesis:1. The Numerical Simulation on the primal volute. Based on the primal volute, the model was established for numerical simulation without simplification on configuration and size. Obtained the distribution of flow field, the non-uniformity coefficient of the velocity field and the loss of pressure;2. The Improvement on configuration of the inlet volute. Based on the numerical simulation results of the primal volute and according to same principles, the configuration of the inlet volute was improved, and then numerical simulation of the improved volute was carried out. Although the improved volute had a high pressure loss, the non-uniformity coefficient of the flow field on the outlet of it was much lower than the primal one.
