The predictive wire & cable maintenance technology is used to solve the issue that how to detect and predict the potential fault, assess the cable life expectancy, achieve predictability maintenance before the cable dose break down. In reality, the structure and material of cable, limitation of fault diagnose method and human factors will affect the effectiveness of predictive maintenance.In accordance with the characteristics and requirements of cable fault information access method, in view of time domain reflectometry method, the junction of cable that influence diagnosis result is studied, and then, waveform recognition method is brought forward.In accordance with the characteristics and requirements of cable fault information access method, the wire & cable fault diagnosis device is designed. By using this device to extract the fault information of the cable model that has multiple structure., the practical effect of waveform recognition method is verified.Based on the actual test results, it can be proved that the waveform recognition method which is brought in this paper could effectively rule out the junction of cable that interfere fault diagnosis. For the transmission cable which has branch structure, this method is also applicable and can judge fault type and location effectively. The next work lies in: 1. actual confirmation of the waveform recognition method that applies in the multi-branched structure cable fault diagnosis; 2. fault information extraction in the high resistance fault diagnosis; 3. potential cable fault prediction and so on.
