Beacause 80 percent time of us is now spent in the room, the quality of indoor air makes sense to the people health directly. In the past 20 years, People long-term living and working in the modern buildings shown increasing serious pathological response, this issue has aroused a wide range of experts and scholars concerned. With the improvement of people's living standards, indoor air quality of the environment to the growing demands, it is necessary to do research on China's indoor air quality. student hostels are often neglected by people , so this paper do the study of association between dorm enviroment factors and students'health in china .Since October 2005,a project"Indoor air quality and Its Association with Student'Health"was carried out in Tianjin University, which consisted of two phase studies,i.e.,cross-sectional study and case control study. In the ross-sectional study we investigated 3436 students living in 1511 dorm rooms located in 13 buildings on the campus ,we get their health and dampness condition from self-questionnaries.Investigation by the symptoms of allergies and respiratory diseases, including breathing difficulties, dry cough at night, rhinitis, eczema and cold; indoor environment is mainly targeted at the hostel dampness indicators and its smell. Investigation results showed that there were significant associations between mould/damp spot, water damage ,a mouldy smell and dry cough, eczema.Based on the status of the investigation data in the cross-sectional study , the case - control study started. "Case" students had at least two self-resported symptoms of asthma ,rhinitis and eczema in the last 12 months prior to the case - control study, while "control" had none of these symptoms. In the case - control study, the project team members visited 291 houses, observe and evaluate the interior of the humid conditions and test the indoor air temperature, humidity and CO2 concentration for 24 hours, and in accordance with dorm room CO2 concentration changes calculated ventilation rate. The project team members collected dust on horizontal surfaces and beds to analyze phthalate esters material (DEP, DiBP, DBP, BBzP, DEHP, DiNP) content, by the way of organic solvent extraction, and then by gas chromatography analysis. Finally, the questionnaire data, material and phthalate resin material content and ventilation rate are scientificly collected and analyzed, then logistic regression analysis on the several factors were done. The results show that live in a room presence of mould/damp spot, water damage ,a mouldy smell or passive smoking has a higher rate of asthma prevalence .Damp indicators is a risk factor of suffering rate of asthma.mould/damp spot, water damage have signficant relationship with dry cough during night and asthma prevalence rate (the last 12 months) and the indoor .Keeping pets in room disease will increase prevalence rate of allergic illness. The type of windows and of population density and other factors have signficant influence of dampness. Research shows that the six kind of phthalate esters substances did not affect human health significantly, it may be because of low concentration of such substances, the impact on human health was not obvious, but can not ignore their impact of health in the long-term..
