The Doubly Salient Permanent Magnet Motor (DSPM) is a new kind of AC variable-speed drives motor,it was introduced in 1990s with the developing of power-electronics and micro-electronics.Recently, more ana mor attention and research having been paid to this motor because of its advantages, such as simple structure, flexible control, quick response, high reliability, high efficiency, etc. At present, in our country and oversea , the research on DSPM is mainly focuses on two directions: one is the basic theory of the DSPM, another is control system development. On the base of reviewing the development history of DSPM motor, introducing its research situation in our country and overseas, understanding its components, A novel 12/8-pole stator located PM motor is designed according to DSPM theory, in this paper, The main contents are as follows:At first, the paper briefly introduces the fundamental structure, operation principle and mathematical model of the DSPM motor; secondly, the static-state characteristics of the model DSPM are analyzed based on two-dimensional (2D) whole field finite element analysis (FEA) in ANSYS, including flux linkage characteristic, inductance characteristic and torque characteristic,as a result the magnetic field distribution at different rotor positions is found; at last, the influence of air-gap on the DSPM's static characteristics is analyzed in this paper, The calculation results show the airgap is great influence to the DSPM torque size and the torque ripple,And this offer an important theoretic underground for the research deeply and design of DSPM .
