Natural characteristics of the blade and tower,as well as the natural frequency and dynamic response of wind turbines, are investigated by using the simulation programs made by FORTRAN for Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines in this paper. The blade and tower are simplified as cantilever beams. The natural characteristics of them are calculated in matrix method. The program can calculate natural frequencies of the NREL Phase V blade, and the results are compared with experimental data. While the natural characteristic for the blade and tower of Turbowinds T600-48 is also calculated, and the results are investigated in comparison with the references.Based on Momentum and Blade element theory and Lagrange's Equation with multiple degrees of freedom in generalized coordinates, motion equation of the coupling system with rotor, nacelle and tower in a horizontal axis wind turbine has been built up by using the modal analysis method, and a simulation program is then made with FORTRAN.By using the program, characteristics of the natural frequency and dynamic response of Turbowinds T600-48 have been computed. The predicted results are in good consistent with the experimental data. The dynamic response of VUB-H8 has also been calculated.
