In the high-voltage electrical power transmission process, we usually adopt overhead electrical conductor. Most of overhead electrical conductors were running in the wild, having long been impacted by the wind. As a result, the conductors are always in the process of vibration which will cause the damage, even the electrical accident. Among the vibration damage of conductor, the fretting damage is the most common. Therefore, the study on the fretting damage of the high-voltage transmission conductor makes great sense. This paper mainly studied on the reason of high-voltage transmission conductor fretting damage and invalidations. As the research of the conductor fretting damage, LGJ150/25 high-voltage transmission conductor was tested on the fretting equipment. The test included two parts, while one is the conductor fretting abrasion and the other is fretting fatigue. Through the test, the mechanism of conductor fretting abrasion and morphology of abrasion spots on the conductor were analyzed. According to the distribution of the abrasion spots, the fretting region of the tested conductor was divided into fretting adhesion, fretting slip and fretting mixing region. Basing on the three regions, the differences and the causes of abrasion spots morphology was researched. Fretting cracks of the tested conductor were found, and the causes and characteristics of the fretting cracks in the tested conductor were analyzed. The conductor fretting fatigue test was to study on the fatigue damage of the conductor under the different fretting-amplitude. The result showed that, the fatigue life of the conductor in the fretting mixing region was shorter under the lager fretting-amplitude. The fretting abrasion was considered as cause of the single wire broken of the conductor according to the fatigue fracture analysis. Fracture mechanics method was used to predict fretting fatigue life of the wire with feat parameters, then introduced a comprehensive parameter geneβ, and calculated the value ofβ. The results were ideal towards the facts.
