Adopting ultra super-critical unit will be the trend in China for improving the power generation efficiency, saving energy, improving the environment and reducing the power generation cost. But the increasement of the steam parameters will fasten the metal oxidization of the components in boiler, such as superheater and reheater. The life span prediction for the steel used in Beijiang 100MW power plant boiler is processed by adopting the Robinson rule, based on the oxide-scale formation and spalling mechanism analysis. Results show that the existence of oxide scale will influence the safety and economy operation of power plant boiler greatly. The precaution measurement for reducing the metal oxide scale is proposed according to the field actual, including the combustion adjustment, equipment retrofit and unit optimum start-up mode etc.
