Metal Halide Lamps have a complicated load character, such as nonlinearity and time-changing. The electro-ballast of the lamps is one representative kind of switch-convertor. The ballast design is complex, needs a special control to fit the lamps, and the main control relies on it's DC/DC converter. In this paper, a DC/DC converter design for the 12 KW MH lamps are proposed, the design process and control have referenced value. The production works steadily. The efficiency of DC/DC converter is more than 97%.In chapter 1, the load character of the lamps and the actuality of electro-ballast are discussed.In chapter 2, the topology of DC/DC converter are researched, the the basic topology of this design is affirmed.In chapter 3, the soft switch technology of Buck converter are researched. The main circuit is confirmed, the parameters is calculated.In chapter 4, the control instrument is elected to fits the lamps. The control circuit is designed, the reactive circuit is calculated.In chapter 5, in order to verify the parameters, the circuits are simulated and the modeling of system control is made. So, the parameters of feedback control circuit are amend.In the last chapter of the paper, the execution and experimentation are introduced. The efficiency of DC/DC converter is more than 97%,attained the needs of the enterprise.The characteristic of the main circuit is :A11 the switchs of the circuit works at soft switch condition, greatly improved the efficiency and stabilization. The control circuit have power feedback control and current feedback control, which can fit the lamps, restrain the circuit concuss. The stability is ensured. The production have been used, and be certificated by the user.
