Many passengers were injured due to the overlarge gap between the platform edge and the carriage body in metro stations. In this paper we have seriously considered all the parameters required for calculating the platform gap, have assigned calculation and analysis work to all factors which may influence the platform gap separately for the linear sector and the curvilinear sector, consummated the minimum value range of the curve radius of the route surface in the station platform sector, and have raised several reasonable suggestions for improving the platform gap design for the linear sector. We hope this work can further improve the platform design in metro systems and consequently lower the rate of the passenger injuring accidents.Based on the foundation of other current research works, we set up several specific researches for the route design parameters of the urban rail transit stations and the platform gap design criteria, which are as follows:1. Have researched the main design parameters of the station route profile, and have provided detailed descriptions on how to rationally choose such parameter values in metro route designs.2. Due to the necessity of increasing the station route width in curvilinear sectors, have separately calculated the width value increased in the inner and the outer side of the curvilinear sector corresponding to the A and B model carriages. Based on satisfying the allowed maximum gap value between the curvilinear platform edge and the carriage contour line, have determined the minimum curve radius value allowed for station routes in curvilinear sector corresponding to these two carriage models. And have further analyzed the reasonable radius value of the route surface possible for choice when under extremely difficult situations.3. Have created the vehicle system model by mechanical motion analysis method. Further, by selecting the linear acceleration method as way to get the numerical solutions of the motion differential equations, researched the vibration performances of the system under particular conditions. Also have provided detailed descriptions about theories of track irregularity and vehicle crawl wave motion in the previous process, and by using the combination of them as the vibrating resource, established the foundation of the system lateral dynamical analysis.4. By using the created vehicle system model, we have carried out researches for lateral dynamical analysis of the system and have discussed the vehicle lateral deviation and its regularity for change in linear sectors caused by the track irregularity and the vehicle crawl wave motion from several aspects including the route regularity, the vehicle motion speed, the wavelength together with the amplitude of the crawl wave motion and the vehicle types.
