Because of the influence of the behavior of joints and various complicated geometric shape, the studay on ultimate strength of steel tubular joints is very important to the design of steel tubular structures.By now, little information was available and no mature designing specification can be observed, which leads to restrict its applications to some extent. In this paper,an ANSYS nonlinear finite element analysis is conducted. The static behavior of overlap K-joints made of square chord and circular braces is studied. The distribution of the various modes of joints failure and characteristics of failure defomation are obtained with finite element analysis of a group of tested samples. Characteristic of plastic development is obtained with the analysis of the process of joints stress. The effect of geometric parameters(β,γ,τ,θ,Οv)action on the limited capacity of overlap K-joints made of SCCB is studied with analysis of ultimate capacity and load-displacement curves of joints. Some strengthening solutions are suggestted for the various modes of joints failure. In general, the limited capacity of overlap K-joints made of SCCB can be enhanced by selecting a proportioned geometric parameters.
