This article in variational principle's foundation, an energy equation is established basing on the mechanical characteristics of the surface layer. According to principle of the minimum potential energy, a closed-form solution on the horizontal displacement of the soil-nail braced structure is derived. The result of the present paper is tested through a comparison with a project case. The result shows that the calculation method is feasible. Form the result, some support parameters were analyzed and concluded that: With the increased thickness of the structure of soil nailing decreaseing horizontal displacement; With the increasing inclination of soil nail retaining structure level displacement has also increased; the greater the diameter of soil nailing, retaining structure greater horizontal displacement; for complex formation, using the respective results of the physical indicators, and the use of soil physical indicators of the weighted average of the results of the calculation there is a difference between Therefore, as far as possible in the calculation should be based on values of the actual situation.
