As an important component of highway roadbed, degree of slope stability has direct impact on the operations of the highway. Slope conservation management makes significant content of highway roadbed management, more prominently in mountain area. Highway from Xiangfan to Shiyan(ab. XSHighway)spreads between plain and hill. Geological damages of slopes around it ware complex. It is useful to study the roadside slope geologic hazards and develop special GIS about slope conservation and management for slope prevention measures optimization, management informationization, traffic safety and service level promotion. The thesis concluded geologic environment features and characteristics of slope geologic hazard development and distribution according to materials gathered from site survey. The paper attempted to analyze the reasonableness of looking at roadside slope geologic damages as a gray system under standpoint of assessment by the system science theory and method. In index system, the article determined each index weight and used multi-level gray-relevancy mode assessment method, which was deprived from gray target theory, to assess crisis of representative slopes. Analysis demonstrated that the assessment result accorded with reality well. Then from point to area it finished crisis regionalization of the research district.Based on client requirement analysis, related data reduction, ArcGIS Engine, Geodatabase model, and Visual Studio 2005, XSHighway slope conservation management system was designed, developed and tested as an absolutely independent software for special use. This system could show map, query and manage slope information, measure route length, and convert real station into design station. Further more, correlate pictures, documents, layers, and computing tool in the system made it run and extend easily.
